How to find a running partner in your city

Running alone is fine. But a running partner is one of the simplest ways to actually keep it up. When someone is waiting for you at the trailhead, skipping the run stops being an option - and the kilometres go by faster with someone to talk to.

The hard part is finding that person, especially if you are new in town or none of your friends run.

Be specific about the run

Vague invitations get vague responses. Instead of "anyone want to run sometime?", offer something concrete: a 5K easy pace on Tuesday evening, or a long slow Sunday-morning run. The more specific the plan, the easier it is for someone to say yes.

Look for runs already happening

You rarely need to build a group from scratch. Somewhere near you, people are already heading out - you just have to find them. Browse activities near you, open the map to see what is happening this week, or go straight to running.

If it does not exist, start it

No run that fits your schedule? Chances are you are not the only one in the area looking. Posting your own run takes under a minute - pick the time, place and how many spots. People nearby who list running among their interests get notified, and suddenly you have company.

The run you start yourself is often the best one, simply because nobody else got there first.

Turn it into a habit

A single run is nice; a standing weekly run builds both fitness and friendships. Set up something that repeats - same day, same place - so you never have to arrange it again. After a few weeks it is just part of your routine.

Teamup is built for exactly this: connecting you with people nearby who want to run, play and stay active together. Free, no ads - just a map of real activities and people who want you along.
