How to find someone to train with nearby

Training alone works for a while. But most people keep it up far longer when someone is waiting for them. A regular padel partner, a Tuesday running group, someone to head out on a weekend hike with - it turns training from something you should do into something you look forward to.

The problem is usually not willpower. It is finding the right people without a big network to start from.

Start with what you actually want to do

Do not look for "someone to train with" in general - it is too vague. Decide on one concrete thing: a 5K jog, a football match on Sunday, a session at the climbing gym. The more specific the activity, the easier it is for others to say yes.

Meet people around the activity, not the other way round

The most common mistake is thinking you need to know someone first and then train together. It is often easier the other way: join an activity, and the people come with it. Nobody expects you to become best friends - you are just there to play a match or go for a run.

Look for activities near you where you live, or open the map to see what is happening around you this week. If you are mostly into one sport, go straight to running or padel.

Create your own if it does not exist

Found nothing that fits? Then you are probably not the only one in the area looking. Posting an activity yourself takes under a minute: pick a sport, time, place and number of spots. People nearby who list that sport among their interests get notified - and suddenly there are more of you.

The best activity is often the one you start yourself, because nobody else got there first.

Make it a habit

What really changes things is repetition. A one-off session is nice; a standing arrangement builds both fitness and friendships. Set up something that recurs - same day, same place - so you do not have to arrange it again each time. After a few weeks it is just "how things are".

Teamup is built for exactly this: connecting you with people nearby who want to train, play and be active together. Free, no ads - just a map of real activities and people who want you along.
